Wayne Fire Department
The Wayne Fire Department was founded in 1911 as a volunteer fire department with 12 firemen. In 1928, the Village of Wayne purchased its first pumper and started a full-time fire department. The Wayne-Nankin Fire Department was formed in 1942, only to be divided again when the Village of Wayne became the City of Wayne in 1960. In all, this organization has served the community for 94 years. Through rare photographs and detailed historical information, this book documents nearly a century of the Wayne Fire Department's dedicated service.

The history of the New Haven Fire Department dates back to December 29, 1789, when Mayor Roger Sherman, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, formed the volunteer system. The advent of steam fire engines in 1862 marked the end of the volunteer system and the beginning of the full-time paid department, giving New Haven the distinction of having the first professional fire department in Connecticut. New Haven has a long and proud history of tradition in its fire service. Since 1862 there have been only fifteen different chiefs heading the department. New Haven Firefighters tells the story from the days of steamers to the era of the tower ladder.

Volunteer fire department - A volunteer fire department (VFD) is an organization of firefighters who have joined forces to perform fire suppression and other related emergency services for a local jurisdiction. According to the National Volunteer Fire Council, 73 percent of firefighters in the United States are members of VFDs.

Bonham Volunteer Fire Department - The Bonham Volunteer Fire Department was officially incorporated as a non-profit organization on September 19 2005. The Bonham Volunetter Fire Department was created in 1893 and up till the 1960's was all volunteers.

Colchester Hayward Volunteer Fire Department - The Colchester Hayward Volunteer Fire Department was established by the borough of Colchester as a result of a petition presented on February 6, 1854 (around one o'clock in the afternoon) in the basement of the First Congregational Church.
